Overview
The Village Clerk serves as custodian of the Village's official records and is New Square's designated Records Access Officer, helping residents obtain public records under the Freedom of Information Law (FOIL). The Clerk's office publishes and posts public notices for Board resolutions, local laws, public hearings, and open meetings, and maintains the official record of reported hazards and defects — such as sidewalk or roadway conditions — as required under New York Village Law. The Clerk also administers oaths of office for Village officials, serves as clerk to the Board of Trustees, and provides administrative support including the preparation of meeting minutes. As a primary point of contact for resident inquiries, the Clerk's office serves as a liaison between residents and Village government.
